Gatta Lilli Ann 17 Tights

Gatta Lilli Ann 17 Tights is a great pair of essential tights!

When looking at tights from Gatta, it is essential to remember that the number is a style number within a range and not a denier as it frequently is with other brands. So Gatta Lilli Ann 17 tights are 40 denier and not 17.

There are three sizes (2-4) to choose from intended to cover heights up to 185cm and weights up to 85kg, although not at the same time. As is our habit we are testing the largest size on a model tall enough to test the limits of the sizing.

Fibre composition is quoted as 86% Nylon and 14% Lycra with no mention of Lurex, this is accurate for the tights themselves but the pattern down the outside of each leg is Lurex, and it stands out against the matte finish of the tights.

Construction is quite straightforward with the legs being unshaped and finished with a sandal toe. The 40 denier material is quite robust enough to make reinforced toe unnecessary. The packet graphics imply “sheer to waist” but in fact, although the weight is constant hip to toe the knit and finish is not, just above where the Lurex design finishes (just below gusset level) there is a band of another texture so take care if you wear ultra-short skirts or shorts. The panty is finished with an unlined gusset which dramatically enhances the fit but is just slightly let down by the lack of flat seams which we have come to expect from Polish brands, particularly at what is for them a higher than average price.

Colour density and regularity are no better than average, but as these are tights to be worn in the evening and with the pattern to draw the eye too, we can let this pass. The pattern stays vivid even when stretched to the maximum thanks to the Lurex and makes for a classy and sophisticated look.

Sizing is slightly on the generous side of accurate to the point where the largest size will cope with maximum weight and height together. Fit and comfort are both excellent.

A great idea and design let down a little by the slight cheapness of the essential tights, but still worth having in your wardrobe.

Gatta Laura 40 Tights

Gatta Laura 40 Tights are the number one tights you need!

40 denier is a fascinating weight of hosiery, too heavy to be called sheer and too sheer to be called opaque. If you are American, the problem is even more severe because they are too sheer to be called tights and somewhat too heavy to be called pantyhose, but in the UK these are semi-opaque tights.

Does tricky to name equate to tricky to wear? Not at all, in our opinion from a fashion perspective; unless you are looking for a completely bare legged look, you could wear 40 denier tights as part of an outfit that would typically include sheer or opaque tights.

We often end a review with consideration of price, but £3.50 (reduced to £2.25 in 2013) is so reasonable it deserves mention straight away. To get to this price there have been compromises with detailing, of course, you get entirely straight legs with a lightly reinforced toe and a boxer style brief. The brief does include an unlined gusset, but you don’t get flat seams at this price.

Unlike many budget tights that are one-size, this style comes in 4 sizes, (2-5) with sizing guidance provided regarding height, weight and hip measurement. Sizing is on the generous side for length and accurate for hip measurement so we would suggest you look at a combination of hip measurement and height when selecting (ignoring weight), go down a size if you are borderline. Size 4 will give a better fit than Size 5 thanks to the gusset.

The look on the leg is stunning; our test pair came in “beige” this was a much deeper and richer tan than this name suggests. The colour is perfectly even, and thanks to the vibrant colour and high denier minor skin imperfections are easily concealed.

The panty fits well and is opaque enough to remove the need for other underwear, but it does come a down the leg so take great care when wearing with shorts or short skirts, you don’t want to have it showing.

Great looking legs at a sensible price and durable too, excellent value.

Gatta Jungle 10 Tights

Gatta Jungle 10 Tights are delectable!

Gatta gives their styles numbers as well as names so in this case, the 10 in the name does not refer to denier. The denier is 40, and 10 is the style number within the Jungle collection.

There was a time that Polish hosiery brands provided amazing quality at surprisingly low prices. Now we have grown to expect the quality, but the prices remain reasonable at a time, whereas some brands have merely gone crazy with their prices.

Wow! We were not expecting what we saw when we opened the packet. Our test pair came described as “Topino”, which is not a colour but the name of a bird, “Sand Martin” in English. The colour was a mid to dark grey and on to that is printed a pattern of black zebra stripes, vertical at foot and ankle and horizontal than to the top of the thigh. The pattern is printed front and back.

Regarding construction everything is quite simple, straight legs, unlined gusset and standard raised seams. There is a definite change of weight at the top of the leg where the pattern ends; the semi-opaque leg gives way to a more sheer boxer style brief.

We love the pattern on the leg and the weight and finish of the legs too, but for us, it all goes wrong with the panty which is just rather ordinary and has no place on tights at £9.30. These are basic semi-opaque tights jazzed up with a single colour printed design.

Sizing is on the generous side, yet is very accurate, and we can’t fault the level of fit and comfort either.

Quite a unique look but one that needs a skirt that will keep the panty covered.

Gatta Glossy Ann Tights

Gatta Glossy Ann Tights are great fun!

There was no clue in the packet notes but as you can see from the picture these tights make use of something very like Lurex to provide sparkle. The tights themselves are smooth soft, and matt and the sparkle is a printed on design. It appears as though “Ann” in the name of a style from Gatta indicates an added pattern.

This style comes in three sizes, (2-4) all of which have open reinforced toes, straight legs, a gusset and flat seams in the panty. The sizing is accurate, but not generous. Indeed if you are a particularly leggy 185cm (6’1”) tall, you may need to do a little careful stretching of the legs.

The pattern is restricted to the legs only, the panty and the tops of the legs are plain. The pattern is maximum intensity in the middle of the front and back of the legs reducing to almost nothing at the sides. Before putting the tights on it seemed the patterned reduced in intensity going down the leg but the different amounts of the stretch at thigh and ankle once on resulted in an even look on the legs. Very clever!

As the pattern is added to what is, in essence, a pair of sheer to waist matt tights the fit and comfort levels are outstanding, and the panty looks and feels far better than the boxer style top it visually resembles.

Gorgeous tights that will get your legs noticed for a very reasonable cost. Fun party tights that would work well with a classy and sophisticated evening outfit too.

Gatta Gisele Tights

Gatta Gisele Tights are exceptional!

Gatta love to take everyday sheers and embellish them with additional details, the Gisele styles carry a simple motif over the foot and up the outside of each calf, the 07 variations having a vine and flower motif in the same colour as the tights.

The base tights are matt finish, sheer to waist tights made with a sandal toe, straight legs, flat seams with reinforcement either side and a lined gusset. Not T-band as there is no finger band connecting the waistband. Soft to the touch, good, even colour.

It seems almost that we are damning these tights with faint praise, but after reviewing several pairs of Gatta tights over the past few days, they are all merging into one, and to say much more would be to risk repeating ourselves.

We should repeat our advice on the sizing. The chart uses weight, height and hip size; our opinion is it is best to select by hip size rather than looking for your height to pick a size. Sizing then is accurate and fit good. Durable tights that feel less soft on your leg than they do in your hand.

Cute tights at a sensible price that offer an exciting alternative to plain sheers. Sensibly priced at £5.99

Gatta has always provided excellent value and consistent quality with their 20 denier fashion sheer tights. Just choose the pattern that suits your look and style, and they won’t let you down.
