Our Review
Lace patterns were all the rage in the 1980s and in our opinion they have not been seen nearly enough since, combining as they do the best of fashion and fishnet hosiery in a single garment.
Marilyn make their Sophia style in a reduced selection of sizes relying on the Lycra in the fibre and the stretch inherent in open knit like lace or fishnet to cover the full range of heights and weights.
Our test pair in size 3/4 and looked ever so small but the stretch available was immediately apparent when you put your hand inside... so much so that our concern became that they would simply expand and them go baggy.
Construction is along the lines of a top quality fishnet with reinforced toes and then a jacquard knit pattern all the way to the waistband. Only in the crotch area does the pattern give way to a plain open knit and this should help comfort. There are no seams. The tights are topped off with a good quality elastic waistband with a scalloped top.
Sizing is quite generous, so much so that we would suggest going down a size if you are borderline, fit is excellent with none of the sagging at knee and ankle we sometimes see with fishnet tights. Fit in the panty is particularly good.
Our test pair came in colour called “Melange” which is a mixture of shades of grey... this has to be the colour of choice, it simply oozes class.
Although described as thick and warm cotton tights our view is that the cotton and open knit mean these stylish tights are perfect for any time of year.
