These tights are made in 4 sizes, sizes Small to Large catering for increasing height, size XL being intended for “larger ladies”. As well as providing hip and height measurements the size chart helpfully includes UK dress sizes.
According to the size chart the large size should have fit Helen, as she is in the middle of the height range at 5’7” and the top of the skirt size at 16. She quickly gave up with the large size and tried Extra Large which are supposedly for skirt sizes 18-30. They fit well and she did question whether anyone much bigger would get into them. It would seem that the sizing is far from generous, although we did find that the XL size would stretch much longer on the leg of a slimmer wearer. We would certainly agree with the M&S recommendation that you try the larger size if borderline and take no notice of the upper height limit on the XL .. we suspect the the 5’9” limit will only apply if you are close to the top end on hip/skirt size.
The compression is quite gentle, but effective. Helen spent a whole day on her feet wearing them and noticed a considerable reduction both in tiredness and swelling at the ankle.
The look on the leg is unremarkable, even colour with just a hint of shine. Quite coarse to the touch. But these are tights to do a job and if you are sitting or standing for long periods they will certainly help.
