Our Review

All thoughts of sheer summery hosiery were dispelled this week when England had its first pre-Halloween snow for many years. Suddenly those neglected opaques were in demand for review. 

A few of the heavier tights had the feel of wool if not the warmth, then we remembered we had the real thing, sat to one side since the summer.  Merino wool tights! Made in three sizes to cover everyone from 4'11" to 5'10" we tested the largest size "C". Inevitably there is the feel of a large pair of socks to these tights, in fact the toe, foot and heel are just like socks. 

Weight and finish are consistent from hip to toe with the exception of the shaped heels and a curious 1cm square at the top of each thigh which has the look of a darn. The seams in the panty are raised and there is a gusset for improved fit. 

After looking at these tights we were all set to say that the feet may be too short and that 2% Lycra wouldn't give much stretch or help with fit. It just shows that you should not try to guess ahead. In fact there was enough stretch for the heel to sit correctly on any normal size of foot and the legs would easily stretch to the sizes outlined on the size chart.  The knit and Lycra together really do provide plenty of stretch and a very good fit.  The downside of stretching these tights that as with any natural fibre getting perfect even colour is not easy and this is exacerbated by stretching. 

All in all the ideal tights to keep you warm in the very cold weather. Not the sexiest to touch or look at but eminently practical.
