Our Review
At first glance the information on the packet of these Cotton tights from Gatta is pretty sparse, but then you realise that other than a complete lack of any indication a regards denier pretty much everything you need to know is there.
If you are fortunate enough to have the tights in their packet in your hand you pretty soon realise that whatever the equivalent nylon denier may be these cotton tights are heavy and likely to be opaque.
Detailing borrows a lot from socks with the toe seam over the toes and a fully shaped knitted in heel. Weight and finish are constant from hip to toe. The panty section features flat seams for comfort and a gusset to help with fit in the larger sizes.
It was the waistband that really caught our attention, not for its plain styling and Gatta motif either side of the rear seam but for its size. Unstretched it is just 13” or 34cm in circumference, and that is on a pair in size 4 intended to fit hips up to 125cm!
One other tiny detail caught our eye on our black test pair, a single line of pale grey on the outside of each leg near gusset level. About 1cm long we are guessing that this and the Gatta logo on the waistband are visual indicators to help those seaming the halves together to ensure that they have a left and a right and join them correctly. Do not attempt to remove this thread.
Well there certainly is a lot of stretch in these tights. The large size will cope with the maximum suggested height of 185cm (6’1”) and it will do that combined with the the hip measurement of 110cm the size chart suggests, perhaps with a couple of cm spare. So at the tall end of the sizing the size chart is 100% accurate, we would question though whether a hip measurement much bigger could be accommodated regardless of height. These do seem to be slim fit tights, but not nearly as slim as we thought from our first measurement. The stretch extends to the foot, whatever your foot size the heel should fit correctly.
These really are quite remarkable tights. The fit is excellent, they are comfortable to wear and ever so warm and cosy. Matt finish but with a hint of shine from the Lycra in direct light. Good opacity but being made with a natural fibre the colour is not quite so dense and as even as you would get with a synthetic.
For £6.99 you really can’t go wrong, great with a short skirt or shorts or as a thermal layer under trousers... oh yes nearly forgot, 80 denier appearance.
