Our Review
Unlike many brands that make a vast range of weights, finishes and sizes Celeste Stein in effect only make one. What really sets them apart is that having made their one size, 40 denier matt finish tights they decorate them with artistic and individual printed designs. The benefit of this approach is that they have practically limitless scope for new designs, and they take advantage by releasing new designs almost every month. (Web masters note: all well and good but it means our shop section is hardly ever up to date with the current designs...)
We could just refer you now to our previous review of the Tropical Paisley design but these tights do deserve a review of their own.
Construction is about as simple as is possible, straight legs, uniform weight from hip to toe, no gusset, raised seams in the panty and a very simple “turn over and sew” type waistband. The design covers the whole of the garment.
One word came to mind when reviewing these tights... “wallpaper”. No we don’t mean the design! We mean that the design has to wrap around the leg and that results in a join line where it meets itself around the other side, in this case up the inside of your leg. Taking the wallpaper analogy a little further if you ever tried to paper a bumpy old wall with a striped paper you will know it is impossible to get the lines straight. With this design the pattern is pulled terribly out of shape on the thighs, not least because the tights are not printed symmetrically.
There is probably a Celeste Stein style for every woman looking to make a bold statement with her leg wear, but when picking yours stay away from the ones with strong continuous vertical lines if you wear your skirts above the knee.
